History of our school

Wexford E.T.N.S. was initially set up by a group of parents who wished to have the choice of sending their children to an Educate Together school. The start-up committee began in 2007 and worked tirelessly campaigning for the development of the school.

The Department of Education and Skills gave confirmation for the opening of a new Educate Together school in Wexford in April 2008. This was to be the second Educate Together school in the county.

Wexford Educate Together National School opened in August 2008, and catered for children from junior infants to second class. Our school was located at St. Mary’s, Summerhill, Clonard from 2008 until September, 2010. The school moved to its current location in Whitemill, Clonard in October 2010. Wexford E.T.N.S. gained full recognition as a primary school in 2011, having fully met the criteria laid down by the Department of Education and Skills.

The enrolment of our school has grown over that time from 20 pupils in 2008, to 120 pupils in 2015 and we are still growing.

About our school

Multi-denominational – children of all denominations and none are equally welcome into our school. Co-educational – Educate Together schools are open to girls and boys and gender stereotyping is addressed and challenged. Child-centred – this applies not only to teaching and learning within the classroom but to all decisions at staff and management level, which must have the well-being of the children at their heart. Democratically-run – parents are viewed as a positive resource for the school. Parental involvement is welcomed and encouraged, where appropriate.
